My Week With Marilyn

Star Rating... **** (Classic)

The basic low-down...

Its 1956 and the ever famous and mesmerizing Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams) arrives in England to star in the film 'The Price and The Show Girl' along side fellow actor Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh). the Film is bought to us from Colin Clarke (Eddie Redmayne), who manages to blag himself a jobs as the directors assistant, witnessing the dramas involved with the contrasting star personalities. His dreams come true when Marilyn takes a liking to the young man and is briefly welcomed inside the screen queens world.
What's right with it?..
There is no doubt that the greatness of this film comes from Williams' outstanding impersonation and becoming of Miss Monroe. Not only does she capture the character, she becomes it, and throughout the film I found myself actually believe I was watching the real Monroe. Williams does so well in shredding her own person to become Marilyn and brings a certain sense of magic, and ever-changing personality that Marilyn seems to have owned. we see the vulnerable side, the girl that is suffocated my the lime light, but we also witness the girl that adored the fame, the sex pot that admires the glory.
There are moments to laugh, and moments to cry, and also moments to feel pure jealousy of either Colin or Marilyn. we are also presented with a cast of respectable British actors such as Emma Watson, Judi Dench and Zoe Wanamaker.
What's Wrong with it?..
If you are expecting a film of great biographical detail, that you will be let down. this isn't a story of bare truth, but one of insight and experience.
Verdict...
Light and wonderfully insightful, this film is pleasing for Marilyn fans all over, as well as establishing a new level and appreciation for Michelle Williams' acting. I can expect nothing more than award nominations to be flying in early next year.
